Indian Premier League (IPL) team Mumbai Indians (MI) has announced that former Australia skipper Ricky Pointing will lead the side in the sixth edition of the tournament.


Ponting was bought by the Mukesh Ambani-owned Mumbai Indians franchise for $400,000 at the recently held  acution of channi Ponting will lead a side already comprsing stars such as Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh.




Owner Nita Ambani said, “On behalf of the Mumbai Indians family, I welcome Ricky Ponting to the team as the leader of the side. Today we have world’s two biggest cricketing greats in Sachin and Ricky, and I am sure the duo will be an inspiration for the youngsters in the team. Sachin will always be an integral and important part of Mumbai Indians’ leadership. Ricky will bring in fresh perspective in the team leadership and will have the support of the best cricketing minds like Sachin, Anil and John Wright.”

Mumbai Indians begin their IPL 2013 campaign on April 4 in Bangalore.

Tendulkar takes over Mumbai Indians captaincy


IPL 6 News  -   Sachin Tendulkar will return as the Mumbai Indians captain for the sixth edition of the IPL, which will commence on April 3. Tendulkar, who will turn 40 during the course of IPL 6, had given up the Mumbai franchise's captaincy after IPL 2011 and his India team-mate, Harbhajan Singh, had taken over.





Tendulkar, who missed the first seven games of IPL's inaugural edition due to injury, was at Mumbai Indians' helm since its inception. After he passed on the reins to Harbhajan, Mumbai Indians won their maiden title when they claimed the Champions League T20 title in 2011. In IPL 2012, under Harbhajan, Mumbai Indians made it to the knockouts where they lost to Chennai Super Kings in the Eliminator.
